Enhancement: Identify what groups a user is a member of when automatic group provisioning is enabled

SonarQube ID information

I have an ongoing issue with group sync (will create a separate post about that issue) and troubleshooting the issue requires that i check which groups a member is part of.

The documentation about how to do this is lacking and I think the functionality is too. There is documentation about how to do this from the groups page. Managing user groups & SonarCloud

However, I have over 50 groups. I do not want to go to each group one by one to search the members. The users page has a “groups” column that shows a number. Why not make the number into a hyperlink and pop up a modal dialog that lists the user groups for that one user?

Seems like this is such basic functionality that this was probably asked for already but I couldn’t find it via searching the community pages. Feel free to close this if this request is already being tracked elsewhere.

Hey @andrew-garland

The functionality is definitely there… but I’ll be the first to admit it’s not particularly bold.

I’ll pass my feedback onto our UX team.

Also, though not particularly relevant here, it looks like you’re browsing the SonarCloud docs. The SonarQube docs can be found here.

My instance doesn’t include the three vertical dots next to the number of groups.

(Edit: perhaps the absence of the dots is related to the fact that I am using GitHub authentication and have enabled automatic group provisioning so there is no use case for manually managing groups. I don’t want to change the groups, i just want to see them. I updated the title of the post to reflect this.)

To add a couple of screen shots to clarify how I see the behavior in the groups list. I see the 3 vertical dots in the members column on the groups page and it brings me to a read-only view that lets me see/search for the users in that group. I am looking for the same behavior in reverse from the users list.

Thanks for the feedback @andrew-garland, we have identified this problem for users with automatic provisioning enabled. We will be fixing it in a future release of SonarQube.

Hey @andrew-garland

Thanks for coming back with more info. I maintain that those dots are still hard to see when they are there. :stuck_out_tongue: And I passed that feedback along as well.
