User Login / SSO Issue: "Email already in use"

Issue:
When a user trys to log into our Sonarqube instance with the “Log in with Microsoft” option they are hit with an error message that their E-Mail is already in use.
The user does have an account listed in the user directory, managed by Microsoft. There is no local Sonarqube account for that E-Mail.

Looking through these forums it looks like there used to be an issue with capitalization. The user account in Sonarqube matches the IdP’s user principal and primary email address in our case.

Why is Sonarqube trying to create a new account rather than accept that the account that is already present with that email address is the one that the user is trying to log into? What value is being evaluated that is mismatching here?

On the Administration → System page, can you set the ‘Log level’ to DEBUG, have the person try to log in again (then drop the log level back down; those logs get big, fast), and post what shows up in your web.log?
