Will the LTA release for SonarQube 10 community build be dropped (formerly community edition)?

Must-share information (formatted with Markdown):

  • which versions are you using: SonarQube Server / Community Build
  • how is SonarQube deployed: zip

With the commit SONAR-23625 support for different version for community build the version number for the upcoming release was changed from 10.8 to 24.11.

This change looks like you prepare to drop the LTA version for the community edition starting with the next release (10.8).

Does that mean that there will be no SonarQube 10.9 community build LTA releases?

Can you please clarify?

Hey @andi,

That’s a good catch!

We’ve actually announced yesterday changes on the free SonarQube experience in this blog post and this announcement.
There will effectively be no LTA for SonarQube Community Build.

Chris

Hi Chris,

I’m a little bit confused about recents updates.

Is this only for cloud-hosted Sonarqube?

We have an on-prem SonarQube server setup using the 10.4 Community Edition, and we are planning to upgrade to 10.7. In our staging environment, there’s a warning message stating, “You’re running a version of SonarQube that is no longer active. Please upgrade to an active version immediately.” It points toward the 2025.1 LTA version for an update.

So Is that possible to use 2025.1 LTA version with an on-prem setup using the Community Edition?

Thanks in advance

Hi @msanyilmaz,

Welcome to the community!

Upgrading from 10.4 to 10.7 will still leave you an a “no longer active” version. As a Community Edition user, you should be targeting the 25.2 (25.3 imminent) version of SonarQube Community Build.

HTH,
Ann
