You’re interested in the topic but don’t think you can make it to the live session? Register here, and receive a recording of the webinar after the event!
Following our Webinar, please find here the questions that were asked during the session.
Q: So today we are talking about cloud features only? does the sessipn make sense for self hosted enterprise instances?
A: Cloud only indeed. If you like what you see about SonarCloud Enterprise, you are likely to like them from SonarQube Enterprise too.
Q: Can we migrate our existing data from SonarQube Enterprise to SonarCloud Enterprise?
A: We have this functionality on our roadmap. https://portal.productboard.com/sonarsource/1-sonarcloud/c/572-migrate-from-sonarqube-to-sonarcloud
If you need to move to our SaaS solution before it’s ready, get in touch with your Sonar Sales representative, they will put you in touch with one of us Solutions Engineers.
Q: My organization currently uses SonarQube Enterprise Edition, and we’d be interested in Enterprise SonarCloud, but we use at least two 3rd-party plugins: OWASP Dependency-Check and ESQL static analysis. If your organization requires plugins, does that rule out all SonarCloud versions? Is support for plugins on the product roadmap?
A: As of today, yes: third party plugins are SonarQube and on-prem only. Please submit your needs on our roadmap portal so that we may consider them for SonarCloud in the future.
Q: Does sonar enterprise has something like “Dependency-Check”?
A: Plugins are unavailble for our SaaS solution presently.
Feel free to promote your requirements on our roadmap portal: SonarCloud Roadmap
Q: Where are the datacenters geographically located which host SonarCloud Enterprise?
A: This is described with https://www.sonarsource.com/trust-center/: Europe - Germany and Ireland. We have plans to offer more locations (i.e. US).
Q: Which Java versions are supported? We currently have Java projects running Java 8. We know the enterprise version we have now only supports Java 11 and 17. We are having to use a workaround in our pipleines to solve this. Would this be a problem for SonarCloud and if so would there also be a workaround with SonarCloud?
A: Feel free to raise your technical questions to the Sonar Community: https://community.sonarsource.com/
when you don’t find the answer in the documentation Java | SonarCloud Documentation
Q: What is the maximum lines of code offering for one SonarCloud Enterprise Instance?
A: We offer different tiers going up to 300M lines of code. If you would like to more, you can leave your contact information at the end of the webinar and we’ll be happy to take you through our offerings.
Q: How does SonarCloud Enterprise Organization and Portfilio differ ?
A: Portfolio was built at the Enterprise level, so that they can aggregate data from projects hosted on all organizations that are part of the Enterprise subscription. Hope this makes sense.
Q: Is there a way to connect internal Git repositories to Sonar Cloud?
A: Good question, I will raise it for John to answer live.
Q: Is there an admin API to configure SonarCloud or is setup mostly via “ClickOps”?
A: SonarCloud has rich REST/JSON API you may leverage for automation.
Q: Which cloud providers and regions do you support?
A: Thanks, you got your answer from Martin live.
Please contact us and tell us about your hosting needs (if Europe is not fitting), so that we can reach back when SonarCloud Enterprise is ready for your company: Contact | Sonar SonarSource
Q: Can you override the settings on project level?
A: Yes, projects can override organization wide settings.
All SonarCloud Enterprise subscriptions include Sonar support, where you will have all your technical questions answered
Q: Great, thank you! As a financial institution, we wiill have to wait until US data centers are offered before we migrate
A: Feel free to tell us so that we can reach back when it’s available: Contact | Sonar SonarSource
Q: what is the timeline to establish SonarCloud Enterprise within the US locations? We are interested of migrating from SonarQube Enterprise to SonarCloud Enterprise in early 2025 but absolutely need to have our SaaS subscription hosted in the US west coast.
A: SonarCloud is not sensitive to network latencies. If you need a specific region hosting, please tell us more about it: Contact | Sonar SonarSource
Q: is there a migration tool / utilility to seamless migrate from SonarQube Enterprise (on-premises) to SonarCloud Enterprise (SaaS Cloud) and retain all existing data?
A: There is no migration tool available as of today. We are looking at this for the first half of 2025. In the meantime, you can use our API’s to transfer some of the data manually.
Q: Can we have criteria or condition or query to add the projects to specific portfolio also to add the new project to this portfolio directly or automatically
A: That isn’t something that is currently possible. We do plan in the future to add a capability to define portfolios in a way that will mean that projects that meet the specified criteria are automatically added.
Q: We manage projects and users access via a self-service portal that uses the Sonarqube API to operate SQ. Are similar APIs available for Sonarcloud?
A: Most of the API’s will be available on SonarCloud as well. You can find the documentation on SonarCloud.
Q: is it possible to download the PDF reports through the REST API as well? E.g. from automation pipelines?
A: This is not currently possible with SonarCloud. We will take this feedback back to the team.
Q: Would you demonstrate options for excluding certain folders and files from scanning? I tried it in the past and it was a bit confusing and not always worked the way I wanted.
A: You can find the documentation on this topic here: https://docs.sonarsource.com/sonarcloud/advanced-setup/analysis-scope/#file-exclusion-and-inclusion . You can do this per project or also on the organization level with SonarCloud Enterprise.
Q: Is any feature upgrade in Sonar qube also similar to sonar cloud?
A: Any analysis updates are usually the same, and so is the core product functionality. They can differ however on some features.
Q: Does SonarCloud show/store actual repository code like Sonarqube? This is more of a question about security concerns with pushing source code to the cloud
A: Yes we store the source code on SonarCloud as well. You can find more information about our security practices and what we do to protect your code here: Trust Center | Security & Compliance | Sonar SonarSource .
Q: In SonarCloud Enterprise, how long is the data retention for the analysis results?
A: You can find this information on our documentation here: Housekeeping & SonarCloud .
