VS 2022 “Focus on new code” setting in plugin extension

Please provide

  • Operating system: Windows 11 22H2
  • Visual Studio version: 17.7.6
  • SonarLint plugin version: 7.3.0.77872
  • Programming language you’re coding in:
  • Is connected mode used: Yes
    • Connected to SonarCloud or SonarQube (and which version):

It’s not clear whether “Focus on new code” is enabled with the sonarlint plugin installed in VS2022.

For example in Rider the setting is clear.

Yet there is no similar setting in Visual Studio

Hi David,

Welcome to the community.

This is a feature we do not support in Visual Studio yet but it’s in our road map and we intend to implement this feature soon.

Hi @uergun - it is now over a year since you intended to implement this feature “soon”, but the option still does not appear in the latest version (8.18.0.13071 at the time of writing).
Do you have any timescale for implementation of same?

In the mean time, how does SonarQube for IDE behave - does it already focus only on new code or does it focus on overall code?
I have seen other posts which seem to suggest the former - e.g. New to SonarQube - Questions about Visual Studio 2022 in Connected Mode to SonarQube Community - #3 by ganncamp - but it would be good to get some clarity on this, as well of course, as an ETA for the feature coming “soon”

thanks

Hi Tony,
While we planned to implement it, we discovered that it’s trickier than expected for C# and .NET. We need to further discuss it with the team to pick the right solution.
Meanwhile, Visual Studio is showing all issues found locally for opened files (more details here). Thank you for your patience, and I will keep you updated ASAP.
Best,
Farah.
