TypeScript 6 support in SonarQube Community Build 26.7+ and documentation mismatch

Hi,

I would like to clarify the current TypeScript 6 support status in SonarQube Community Build.

We are currently running SonarQube Community Build 26.3.0, which includes SonarJS 11.8.0 and TypeScript 5.9.3.

In one of our TypeScript projects, we use TypeScript 6 features in tsconfig.json, for example ES2025.Intl. With our current SonarQube version, the scanner reports a warning because the bundled TypeScript version does not recognize this configuration.

The analysis itself still completes successfully, but it appears to continue without full TypeScript type information.

While investigating an upgrade, I found that newer Community Build versions include newer SonarJS versions. For example:

  • Community Build 26.7.0 → SonarJS 13.1.0

  • SonarJS 13.1.0 includes TypeScript 6.0.3

However, the official SonarQube documentation still states that TypeScript is supported only up to version 5.9.3.

Could you please clarify the following?

  1. Is TypeScript 6.0.x officially supported by SonarQube Community Build 26.7 or later?

  2. Is the documentation stating support up to TypeScript 5.9.3 simply not updated yet, or is TypeScript 6 still considered unsupported even though SonarJS includes TypeScript 6.0.3?

  3. For projects using TypeScript 6-specific tsconfig.json options such as ES2025.Intl, is upgrading to Community Build 26.7+ the recommended way to resolve these parsing/type-information warnings?

  4. Are there any known limitations when analyzing TypeScript 6 projects with the current Community Build releases?

We are considering upgrading from 26.3.0 to 26.9.0, so I would like to confirm the official support status before proceeding.

Thanks!

Hey @Heejin_Yu, welcome to the Community!

TypeScript 6 is not yet officially supported in SonarQube, including Community Build – our public language docs still cap support below TS 6 (Server/Community Build through 5.6, SonarQube Cloud “up to 5.9.3”). Newer Community Build versions do bundle newer SonarJS releases that internally use TypeScript 6.0.3, so upgrading from 26.3.0 to 26.9.0 is recommended and will generally improve compatibility with TS 6-only tsconfig options, but this is still “best effort”: analysis may log warnings, miss some issues, or in edge cases fail on newer TS 6 features.

Support for Typescript 6 is in our roadmap. In the meantime, the safest setup is either (a) to keep the analysis tsconfig within the documented TS range (for example via a tsconfig.sonar.json that omits TS 6-only options), or (b) accept that running with TS 6.x is ahead of our official support and may have occasional parsing or analysis gaps until the documentation is updated to a higher TS version.
