Regarding the answer in Will Java 16 and 17 be supported in SonarQube 8.9 LTS? and the 18 months release cycle for LTS versions I was shocked to realize, that within the next year there is no SQ LTS release that will support Java 17.
As I can’t believe this I wanted to make sure that this is correct.
Java Projects can’t be updated to Java 17 for at least a year? Probably longer as SonarQube 7 LTS to SonarQube 8 LTS took almost two years.
Not only Java 16 and 17 will not be supported. Both upcoming Java versions 18 and 19 will not be supported as well before the SQ LTS 9 will be released.

We indeed decided to decouple the SQ LTS release cycle from the language version LTS release cycle.
The support of the latest Java version and its specific features is one of our top Java priorities. The support of Java 17 will be available for SQ 9.2 this week.
We encourage all our users interested in the latest features to migrate to the latest SQ version.
