Forever repeating tab/space character warnings

Files with incorrect tab characters usually triggers a warning, but these warnings begin piling up and consuming the editor space. Even after correcting the tab/space issues these messages remain. The only way to get them back down to one is to restart PhpStorm.

Edit: The most consistent way to get more warnings is to add newlines to the file switch tabs.

Hello @jbanahanbvm, could you please provide the version of IntelliJ you are using?

The issue was identified to be present in version 2024.1. We started a discussion with JetBrains which led to a fix on their side in the EAP version 2024.2 (starting from build IU-242.20224.91).

Great to hear! I’m still on 2024.1 and may just wait for 2024.2 to come out of early access.
