Can we update rules and profiles without upgrading Sonar application?

Looking for advise on whether we can update rules and profiles without upgrading Sonar application please.

  • what have you tried so far to achieve this

I have looked through the Web UI to see if there are any options to update the rules/profiles. I have also Google’d for the answer, without luck.

  • Additional information

We are, unfortunately, stuck with using an old version of SonarQube (v8.9.2) for the moment. Hence, we are looking for advise on whether we can update rules and profiles without upgrading Sonar application please.

Welcome to the community!

Non-built-in profiles are fully editable but you won’t get new/upgraded rules until you upgrade.

:warning: Make sure you upgrade to SonarQube v9.9 LTS soon, not only to benefit from our Best LTS Ever™, but because soon we will systematically ask users to upgrade when they ask questions about earlier versions of SonarQube, which are now considered unsupported. :smiley:
