Admin permissions within a group

  • SonarQube version: * Community Edition v9.9.6 (build 92038)

What are you trying to achieve:

We would like to be able to designate group administrators who can manage permissions and members within their group without requiring global administrator privileges.

Currently, it seems that only global administrators can manage groups in SonarQube, meaning they can create, delete, and manage group members, as well as assign project permissions to groups. However, there is no option to assign administrative roles at the group level, allowing someone to manage the group without being a global administrator.

Is there currently any way to:

  1. Assign group-level administrators who can manage members and permissions within their group?
  2. Implement this feature to delegate the management of groups without requiring global admin rights?

What have you tried so far to achieve this:

We have searched through the documentation and community forums, but it appears that the only way to manage groups and permissions is through global administration. We believe it would be a useful feature to have more granular delegation of responsibilities, allowing non-global admins to manage their groups.

Hi,

Welcome to the community!

What you’re after isn’t currently available, and I’m not aware of any plans to add it. Instead, we’ve been focusing on synching permissions from external providers. In current versions we’ve implemented SCIM for GitHub, with GitLab planned soon. That starts in Enterprise Edition($$).

Hi Ann,

Thank you for your prompt response and for clarifying the current situation. I appreciate the information about the focus on syncing permissions and the upcoming plans for GitLab. That’s exactly what I wanted to hear!

Best regards,
