SonarQube for IDE: VS Code 4.40 - AI Agent configuration for Kiro

Dear VS Code community,

We are thrilled to announce the release of SonarQube for IDE: Visual Studio Code v4.40!

This release focuses mostly on helping you configure AI Agent for Kiro.

Here’s what’s landing in your editor today:

:robot: AI Agent Configuration for Kiro

You can now customize how Kiro interacts with your workspace. This update introduces a dedicated configuration layer, allowing you to:

  • One-Click MCP Server Configuration: Skip the manual overhead. You can now bootstrap your Model Context Protocol (MCP) server settings instantly, allowing Kiro to communicate with your tools without a complex handshake.
  • Custom Rules Files: You can now create a dedicated rules file to guide Kiro. This acts as a “manual” for the agent, providing specific instructions on how it should interact with the SonarQube MCP Server to ensure it follows your team’s coding standards and analysis preferences.

You can read more about SonarQube for IDE in Kiro in our docs.

:airplane: Local Flight Recorder Data Collection

Debug with total privacy and precision. The new Flight Recorder allows you to capture real-time execution data and directly on your local machine.

  • Performance Snapshots: Identify bottlenecks in your SQ scripts by simplified the capturing of thread and heap dumps
  • Easy Export: If you do need to share a log with our team, you can package your local recordings in one click.

:hammer_and_wrench: Bugfixes & Improvements

  • SonarQube Cloud Connection Fix: We addressed a bug in the UI that was causing failures during the initial SonarQube Cloud connection creation. Setting up your environment should now be seamless and “one-and-done.”

As always, you can check out the full, detailed release notes for all the changes.
