Does sonarqube publish benchmarks for how it works on large scale performance? I see a question previously asked at Performance guide for large project analysis . However its been a while since 2018 and I’m hoping there would have been a lot of improvements here with the introduction of analysis cache and parallel processing.
For us, a 1.1 MLOC Android project takes about 30 minutes for running branch analysis.
We’ve worked on the topic in the meantime, but we haven’t published any new benchmarks.
Since it’s an Android project, I suppose that means a Gradle build/analysis, and Gradle DEBUG logs are horrific, so I’m afraid to ask for that. But could we at least get a --info analysis log, so we can see where the time is going?
The analysis / scanner log is what’s output from the analysis command. Hopefully, the log you provide - redacted as necessary - will include that command as well.
So this seems to also be impacted by having access to scm data. After having scm access enabled, this is proportional to the changeset and takes about roughly ~15 minutes . Please let me know if you still sharing the logs for a complete branch analysis (without changed files identification) taking 30 minutes is long, I will try to get these logs.
Whether we go further is up to you. If you’re content to get to the proportional analysis with SCM data, then we can be done. If you’d like to investigate further, then we’ll need those logs.

In that case is there any way I can send the file on email instead of adding it here? I have scrubbed the logs but would prefer not having it in a publicly accessible location.
The log file(exclusively sonar logs) is also 50 Mb in size.

Redacting this to that level is not something I’d be able to provide right now. I will open a new ticket with the relevant logs separately . However I would still be interested in understanding how much is the analysis time that other people face on their projects.

The total time taken here is about 23m45s. Gradle indicates that the sonar task to 37m 8.676s to execute.
This is with scm analysis enabled and sonar is performing a branch analysis. We run the main branch analysis on a scheduled basis. So this runs every 2 hours.The previous runs for main’s branch analysis was done on the same commit reference. i.e. there is no change between the source code in the time between the two branch analysis done.
Please let me know if there are any other specific logs you need here.

The Kotlin analyzer is running in a context where unchanged files cannot be skipped.
This project is about 90% kotlin code . SCM publisher is also enabled for this project.

I see this line in all the logs for this. Could this perhaps be cached or provide a permanent path that we can choose to cache the file so that it’s not downloaded for every run?

Your version is past EOL. You should upgrade to either the latest version or the current LTA (long-term active version) at your earliest convenience. Doing so may help your analysis duration, but I cannot continue to debug performance on an EOL version. Your upgrade path is:
I did call that out . And we are in the process of doing this upgrade right now. Do you mean to say that the issues that I’ve pointed out here would all be related to the update itself?
To be clear, I’m not sure how much your analysis will speed up after upgrade, but as I said, I can’t continue debugging the performance of an EOL version.
If you’re still unsatisfied with the performance after upgrade please post a full, complete (altho redacted as necessary) analysis log, not just the timings.
