Simplify Portfolio Access Control with Permission Templates in SonarQube Cloud

Hi there,

Following on from the ability to apply permissions to portfolios at the group level, we are pleased to announce support for permission templates for portfolios in SonarQube Cloud:

This new feature allows you to create and reuse permission settings across multiple portfolios, making it easier to manage access for teams and users.

What are Permission Templates?

A permission template is a reusable set of permissions that specifies which groups and users have access to specific rights (such as viewing contents of the portfolio, changing portfolio content, or assigning roles) within the portfolio. Once created, a template can be applied to multiple portfolios, saving time and maintaining consistency across your organization.

Who Can Use Permission Templates?

Enterprise Admins can create portfolio permission templates and decide which is used as the default for any new portfolios. Users with Administer rights on a particular portfolio can decide which permission template to apply to that portfolio.

Working with Portfolio Permission Templates

You can create and manage permission templates under My Portfolios > Administration > Portfolio Permission Templates.

From here, as an Enterprise Admin, you can ‘Create new template’, edit existing templates, or choose to set a default template for new portfolios to automatically align with your organization’s access policies.

To apply a permission template to a specific portfolio, navigate to that portfolio’s Permissions settings and select the desired template.

Why We Added This

Managing permissions across multiple portfolios can be time-consuming, especially as organizations scale. By enabling reusable permission templates, we aim to simplify and streamline how you manage portfolio access, allowing you to set up permissions once and apply them across portfolios effortlessly.
