Why indexing is taking longer than expected in SonarQube

Must-share information (formatted with Markdown):

  • which versions are you using (SonarQube, Scanner, Plugin, and any relevant extension): 8.9.10
  • what are you trying to achieve: After patching SonarQube is taking more time to index, please confirm what could be root cause

Do not share screenshots of logs – share the text itself (bonus points for being well-formatted)!

Hi,

Your version is past EOL. You should upgrade to either the latest version or the current LTS at your earliest convenience. Your upgrade path is:

8.9.10 → 9.9.1 → 10.1 (last step optional)

If you have questions about upgrading, feel free to open a new thread for that here.

Regarding your question, the upcoming 10.2 release will make more of the interface available while reindexing is going on. I urge you to pursue your 9.9 upgrade now so that you can move immediately to 10.2 when it is released (E.T.A next week).

Hi Ann Campbell ,

Thank you for the response.
When we move from 8.9 to 10.2, what would be the potential risks for taking a big leap.
Things you can point us to take as precaution!

Hi,

Please see the links I provided above.

Hi Ann,

We tried to upgrade our dev to 9.9.2 LTS but still the indexing is taking longer.
We thought of moving to 10.x version after we have the next LTS.

Do we have an option in Sonar to take snapshot and recover from the snapshot or any other option to improve the indexing time.

Hi,

Sorry, but you’ll just have to wait it out for an LTS upgrade. Between LTSs, though, you can ease the pain by externalizing where you store the Elasticsearch indices.

HTH,
Ann
