SonarQube Update 9.9.8 to 2025.1

Hi,

I’m currently running the sonarqube “Community Edition v9.9.8 (build 100196)” LTA (via zip) and am trying to upgrade to 2025.1 LTA (also via zip).

After installing, I see this error in the es.log:

fatal exception while booting Elasticsearch
java.lang.IllegalStateException: cannot downgrade a node from version [8.16.3] to version [8.16.1]

I then noticed comparing the current download site to the historical downloads that there is no “community” option for the 2025.1 LTA, so I must have gotten the “developer” one.

My question is what is the upgrade process to get from the 9.9.8 community LTA to the 2025.1 LTA? Do I need to change my current 9.9.8 to “developer” first?

Thank you

Hi,

There’s no LTA version for the Community Build. The most recent (and only) supported release is 25.2.

The new versioning scheme is a bit confusing:
Commercial builds: <year>.<release> (e.g.: 2025.1)
Community Build: <short year>.<month> (e.g.: 25.2)

Thanks! That helps.

The more I read the docs, the more confused I got
Monthly updates from now on, then.

Just came across this post:
A better (free) SonarQube experience

That also helped explain. Thanks again @Scott
