Proxy Server - required or optional?

I will be installing SonarQube 8.9 (Community Edition) on a RHEL 7 (or 8) server. It will be SSL-enabled, and user management will be served from an existing LDAPS Active Directory server. With a previous SonarQube 7.9 installation, I had to configure a reverse proxy per the 7.9 documentation: “To run the SonarQube server over HTTPS, you must build a standard reverse proxy infrastructure.” The 8.9 documentation is vague: “This section helps you configure the SonarQube Server if you want to run it behind a proxy. This can be done for security concerns or to consolidate multiple disparate applications.”

…if you want to…” is not the same as “…you must…”. So, is a proxy server REQUIRED for my 8.9 configuration?

Nice play on my words!

Thank you for the quick response. I guess I’ll be setting up a proxy server.
