You can use GitHub - jborgers/sonar-pmd: ☕️ PMD Plugin for SonarQube (the latest version is compatible with SonarQube v9.9 ).
Alternatively you can import PMD reports as external analyzer reports

I can’t say there’s a real preference in general, but I can throw out some facts that may help you make your own decision:
