Use of it's where its should be used

SQ 8.6

The contraction “it’s” is sometimes used where the possessive pronoun “its” is required, in the rule description field mdDesc:

java:S1149 - “… before using it, since it’s usage can be tricky …”
java:S4787,javascript:S4787,typescript:S4787 - “… it’s IV (Initialization Vector) is not generated …”

Why is this an issue?

Grammatically incorrect sentences are harder to read and slow down the user.

Non-compliant example:

it’s IV (Initialization Vector) is not generated

Compliant example:

its IV (Initialization Vector) is not generated

Hi,

Your version is past EOL. You should upgrade to either the latest version or the current LTS at your earliest convenience. Your upgrade path is:

8.6 → 8.9.4 → 9.2.2 (last step optional)

You may find the Upgrade Guide helpful. If you have questions about upgrading, feel free to open a new thread for that here.
