# Upgrading SonarQube rule pack

Hi Team,  
We are currently using SonarQube Community Edition Version 8.9.2  
Would like to get clarity on below queries regarding SonarQube rule pack.

1. Is there any way to upgrade only the sonarqube rule pack ? If yes, how to upgrade only the rule pack (Offline installation/upgrade) ? Do we need to consider any pre-requisites like specific rule pack version doesn’t work with specific sonarqube versions ?
2. Does upgrading sonarqube software versions does or doesn’t necessarily upgrade rule pack versions ?
3. What is the best approach in upgrading rule pack ? Meaning, does rule pack versions must be regularly upgraded whenever sonarqube software versions are upgraded or rule pack/sonarqube version upgrades to be handled seperately ?

Hey there.

It’s not possibly to independently upgrade the rules of SonarQube without upgrading SonarQube itself.

SonarQube _v8.9 LTS_ is an EOL version of SonarQube. You should start working on an [upgrade](https://docs.sonarqube.org/9.9/setup-and-upgrade/upgrade-the-server/upgrade-guide/) to SonarQube _v9.9 LTS_.
