Upgrade Path from SonarQube 2026.1 LTA to 2026.2 non LTA

Hi Team,

We are currently using SonarQube 2026.1 LTA in our environment.

We understand that Java 25 support has been introduced in SonarQube 2026.2. We have also heard that Java 25 support may not be available in an LTA release until the next LTA cycle, potentially sometime in 2027.

Since Java 25 support is an important consideration for us, we would like to understand the available options and the recommended upgrade path.

Could you please advise:

  • Whether a direct upgrade from SonarQube 2026.1 LTA to SonarQube 2026.2 (non-LTA) is supported ?
  • Any considerations, limitations, or risks associated with moving from an LTA release to a non-LTA release ?
  • The recommended upgrade path for customers who require Java 25 support before it becomes available in a future LTA release ?

Hello @rahul.phatkare,

Your question was already partially answered in a previous response to your question: Java 25 support in SonarQube? - #19 by pst

Yes, a direct upgrade is supported from SonarQube v2026.1 LTA to v2026.2 (non-LTA). You can reference this upgrade path ‘calculator’ for specific: Determining the update path | SonarQube Server | Sonar Documentation

The main thing to be aware of is the fact that a non-LTA release is only supported until the next version is released. So, SonarQube v2026.2 is already out of date because SonarQube v2026.4 has been released. No further patches or fixes will be implemented in SonarQube v2026.2.

As Ann mentioned, there will likely be a September 2026 LTA released shortly, so you may want to wait until then. Otherwise, I would recommend upgrading to the latest current version, v2026.4.

Hope that helps.

Best regards,

Stevan
