Just for info
I upgrade our 7.9.3 server last Saturday, to version 8.9 upgrade took like 15 minutes (everything prepared) no issues. Smooth and fast! 
We have 365 projects now,

We are also on 7.9.3 so this is exciting news. We are planning to upgrade our test environment first, then proceed to prod. Anything we need to watch for? Was the upgrade relatively transparent to the users or does it change the UI considerably or how it works?

Pretty transparent, the one change is new_code, you can’t set a date and if you use a reference branch for that you must make sure your buildsystem check out the develop branch, and not just the feature branch, from the git repo.
