Hi all,

SonarSource is thrilled to announce the release of SonarQube 9.9, the new LTS! ![:tada:](https://europe1.discourse-cdn.com/sonarsource/uploads/sonarcommunity/original/2X/e/e69717ced28a53ad899c5024deac74a0b929ddd1.png ":tada:")

You’ll find a summary of all the new features added since the previous LTS in the [official announcement](https://www.sonarsource.com/products/sonarqube/downloads/lts/9-9-lts/). You can take a look at the highlights there, see all the great features we’ve worked on since the previous LTS including faster Pull Request analysis, securing cloud native apps, enterprise-grade features for easy operability, security and management of your instance.

In addition, there are a few other items to note since the last (9.8) release:

- The SonarQube server now requires Java 17. Analysis may continue to use Java 11 if necessary. ([SONAR-17566](https://sonarsource.atlassian.net/browse/SONAR-17566)).
- We’ve updated the list of supported database versions. See more details in the [prerequisites documentation](https://docs.sonarqube.org/latest/requirements/prerequisites-and-overview/). ([SONAR-17712](https://sonarsource.atlassian.net/browse/SONAR-17712), [SONAR-17713](https://sonarsource.atlassian.net/browse/SONAR-17713), [SONAR-17742](https://sonarsource.atlassian.net/browse/SONAR-17742)).
- We’ve also updated the list of supported DevOps platform versions. See more details in the documentation, such as for example in the [documentation for GitHub](https://docs.sonarqube.org/latest/devops-platform-integration/github-integration/). ([SONAR-17756](https://sonarsource.atlassian.net/browse/SONAR-17756)).
- We’ve improved the user experience for Quality Gates to help everyone implement the [Clean as You Code methodology](https://docs.sonarqube.org/latest/user-guide/clean-as-you-code/#quality-gate). SonarQube helps you identify and fix Quality Gates that are not compliant with Clean as You Code. ([SONAR-17815](https://sonarsource.atlassian.net/browse/SONAR-17815), [SONAR-17816](https://sonarsource.atlassian.net/browse/SONAR-17816), [SONAR-17818](https://sonarsource.atlassian.net/browse/SONAR-17818))
- We’ve also added information in telemetry to better understand the impact of the Clean as You Code methodology. See more details in the [telemetry documentation](https://docs.sonarqube.org/latest/instance-administration/telemetry/). ([SONAR-18188](https://sonarsource.atlassian.net/browse/SONAR-18188), [SONAR-18219](https://sonarsource.atlassian.net/browse/SONAR-18219)).
- We’ve made new accessibility improvements on various pages. ([SONAR-18131](https://sonarsource.atlassian.net/browse/SONAR-18131), [SONAR-17845](https://sonarsource.atlassian.net/browse/SONAR-17845)).
- The Docker image is now available for arm64-based Apple Silicon (M1).

You’ll find more details in the [upgrade notes](https://docs.sonarqube.org/latest/setup-and-upgrade/release-upgrade-notes/) and full details in the [release notes](https://sonarsource.atlassian.net/issues/?jql=project%20%3D%2010139%20AND%20fixVersion%20%3D%2013931).

If you’re upgrading across multiple versions, you should at a minimum read the upgrade notes for the intervening versions. If you’re upgrading from the previous LTS (8.9), you’ll find a consolidated version in the [LTS to LTS upgrade notes](https://docs.sonarqube.org/9.9/setup-and-upgrade/lts-to-lts-release-upgrade-notes/). Also don’t forget that if you run a version older than the previous LTS (8.9), you need to upgrade to 8.9.10 first, and then to 9.9 LTS.

Please open new threads for any questions you have about these or other features.

As usual, [downloads are available at sonarsource.com](https://www.sonarsource.com/products/sonarqube/downloads/). Docker images are also available on [Docker Hub](https://hub.docker.com/_/sonarqube).

WRT DB migration errors with MSSQL when updating from 9.7.1 \> 9.8.0 = no

> [@Possible db migration error when updating to Sonarqube Enterprise 9.8.0 with MSSQL](https://community.sonarsource.com/t/possible-db-migration-error-when-updating-to-sonarqube-enterprise-9-8-0-with-mssql/79261/4):

> Hi. Followup, updated both our Sonarqube Enterprise (running with MSSQL) test installations today. Test 1 9.8.0 (after the manual DB patch, mentioned above) \> 9.9.0 Test 2 9.7.1 (running and updated since 5.6) \> 9.9.0 and the DB migration ran smooth. Note = mssql-jdbc-auth has to be updated to mssql-jdbc\_auth-11.2.2.x64.dll, as Sonarqube now ships with mssql-jdbc-11.2.2.jre17.jar and - as this filename already reveals - Sonarqube runs on Java 17 now, Java 11 doesn’t work anymore. @Chris Is there a list of all changes. For example, does it now support NodeJS v16 ?
Thank you very much in advance !

Hi Eugene,

For a list of all the main features that this LTS is adding, you can refer to the [Roadmap page](https://www.sonarsource.com/products/sonarqube/roadmap/) where you’ll find more details about what was released during the 9.x cycle.

Regarding the version of Node.JS that is supported, I invite you to look at either the [LTS to LTS Upgrade Notes](https://docs.sonarqube.org/latest/setup-and-upgrade/lts-to-lts-release-upgrade-notes/) or at the [JavaScript/TypeScript/CSS documentation](https://docs.sonarqube.org/latest/analyzing-source-code/languages/javascript-typescript-css/). You’ll find there that, in order to analyze Javascript, Typescript, and CSS, we recommend using Node.JS v16 and v18.

Chris

@Chris Thank you Chris! This is very helpful. In terms of NodeJS, I was referring to the message that would appear in LTS 8.9 server UI about not supporting v16 analysis. I know that was supported in non LTS releases of 9.X, and I am guessing now incorporated into 9.9 LTS. Anyway , Thank you for your help ! Much appreciated !
