SonarLint - Unable to extract rules metadata

Hi,

We are using SonarLint with IntelliJ and with any version higher than 6.7.0.45926, it gives an error saying “unable to extract rules metadata.”

  • Operating system: Windows 10/11
  • SonarLint plugin version: Any version higher than 6.7.0.45926
  • Programming language you’re coding in: Java
  • Is connected mode used: Yes
    • Connected to SonarCloud or SonarQube (and which version): SonarQube * Community Edition
  • Version 8.9.1 (build 44547)

And a thorough description of the problem / question: While using any version higher than 6.7.0.45926, SonarLint fails to fetch the rules giving an error “Unable to extract rules metadata”. The only resolution is to downgrade back to the 6.7 version.

Can someone please help?

Hi,

Your SonarQube version is past EOL. You should upgrade to either the latest version or the current LTS at your earliest convenience. Your upgrade path is:

8.9.1 → 9.9.1 → 10.2 (last step optional)

Once you’ve upgraded SonarQube, you’ll be able to use modern versions of SonarLint with it.
