IntelliJ thread count increases to 3.5k and drains M2 Max MacBook battery in no time

  • Operating system: macOS 15.3.2
  • SonarQube for IntelliJ plugin version: 10.19.0.80823
  • IntelliJ version: 2024.3.4
  • Programming language you’re coding in: Java
  • Is connected mode used: yes
  • SonarQube Server: 2025.1 (102418)

And a thorough description of the problem / question:
We make heavy use of setting up “per-module” binding overrides. Simply to be able to set up multiple repositories in the same workspace, each using their own SonarQube projects.

The problem is: since we have switched to that approach, the SonarQube IntelliJ plugin drains our batteries, the analysis progress bar keeps showing analysis of the same files and warnings vanish from the IDE.

At the same time, the number of threads for IntelliJ in the “Activity Monitor” of my MacBook pro (normally using up about 160) rises to up to 3500 threads.

I know of Windows users having the same problems. Currently I have disabled the plugin, simply because the battery does not last one hour even when the MacBook is asleep.

Hello @swesteme, thanks for your report.

Unfortunately I can’t promise a fast fix. I’ve created the ticket for this cause and we will try to investigate what we can optimize around your use case.

It would be helpful if you would provide approximate number of modules you have in the project. Also logs sample of several minutes when you experience the problem would help as well.

Best,
