# Cannot Update Security Issue Status

I am trying to change the status for the external issues I inputted, but I cant seem to be able to do so even though I have set the correct permissions.

I have tried granting the permissions through both ‘Administration \> Security’ and through the ‘Project Settings \> Permissions’, but so far I can only change the status for ‘Code Smell’ and not the ‘Vulnerability’.

SQ version: 8.6

Hi,

First, your version is past EOL. You should upgrade to either the latest version or the current LTS at your earliest convenience. Your upgrade path is:

> 8.6 → 8.9.3 → 9.1 (last step optional)

You may find the [Upgrade Guide](https://docs.sonarqube.org/latest/setup/upgrading/) helpful.

Regarding your questions, external issues aren’t editable within SonarQube. The thinking has been that since the rules are managed outside SonarQube, the issues should be too.
