Automatic Analysis for GitHub not working

I have set up and created all the files as requested for GitHub automatic analysis.
The problem is that when I do a new push to GitHub, I expect the analysis to automatically run, but it does not. Nothing happens.
I may have made a mistake, or there could be errors in the files, or they may be in the wrong place. There are no error messages that I see reporting any problems - so I am left in the dark about why the automatic analysis does not work.
Can anybody guide me on how to find the problem - or where possible error messages can be traced?

Automatic analysis doesn’t require any particular files to be created. Which files have you created? Perhaps what you have set up is CI-based analysis but are expecting it to work like automatic analysis? Could you share a screenshot of Project Administration > Analysis Method?

I most probably confused the automatic analysis and GitHub Actions or CI-based analysis.
I now deleted the three files I created as instructed under GitHub Actions.

But my project ran the first time - but since then, it refuses to run again. I thought it would run automatically if I pushed new code to GitHub, but I have done this many times now, and nothing happens.
I do not know where to find the scanner logs

Okay, so indeed you have automatic analysis turned on. In this case, you don’t need to set up CI-based analysis.

Some starting points to investigate why it isn’t being triggered upon pushing new commits:

  • Check that the push was made to the default branch or to a branch with an open pull request. Pushes to other branches do not trigger Automatic Analysis.
  • In GitHub, confirm the SonarQube Cloud app is installed and still authorized for the repository.
  • Check Project Administration > Background Tasks after the push. Note whether a new task appears and whether it succeeds or fails.
  • Confirm the project is not also configured for CI-based analysis; use only one analysis method.

Regarding the warning about the scanner logs, when using automatic analysis you can’t see them, because they’re on our server side instead of on your CI. I will flag this for our devs, maybe it would be a good idea to fix the wording so that automatic analysis users don’t get confused.
